Ytterbium fluoride (also known as ytterbium trifluoride) is a chemical compound with the formula YbF3. It is a rare earth fluoride and a white solid material with a cubic crystal structure. Ytterbium fluoride is used as a material for making phosphors for use in cathode ray tubes and fluorescent lamps, as a dopant in semiconductor devices, and as a catalyst. It is also used in the production of specialty glasses and as a component of laser materials.
